The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Business Development Manager, Senior for the Greater Ft Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The purpose of this class within the organization is to provide creative leadership through business development, marketing initiatives, destination branding, content creation and the promotion of County agencies.
This position will plan and direct research and business intelligence projects to support convention and tourism product development, plus marketing strategies for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau (GFLCVB).This position will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic research/data plan that identifies the knowledge-gaps to fill in order to support the organization and local hospitality industry.
Share with GFLCVB staff and stakeholders research projects on relevant industry topics and work closely with GFLCVB departments to identify business questions and monitor trends. Report on key market trends, changing market conditions and highlighting opportunities and threats to facilitate informed decision-making by the business.
Develop and implement a dashboard tool to GFLCVB staff and community stakeholders which will monitor a wide range of GFLCVB key performance indicators. Produce a toolkit for hotel partner use during their annual budgeting cycle.
Work closely with the Marketing Department to identify consumer personas, geographic regions, and specific client demographics to optimize marketing spend. Work with Convention Sales Department to identify specific clients who are compatible with GFLCVB convention assets, in particular the Broward County Convention Center. Work with Tourism Department to identify threats and opportunities available to GFLCVB in the highly competitive global tourism marketplace. Work with other GFLCVB Departments (Multicultural, Sports, LGBTQ, Underground/Film) to identify, plan, and execute research projects which will enhance GFLCVB's position in these niche markets.
Establish an efficient framework for obtaining and disseminating valuable intelligence, and creating high quality, accessible, and timely research for the benefit of all industry stakeholders.
Maintain and enhance database of all tourism research and statistics including:
Visitor statistics (i.e., economic impact of tourism, visitor spend, origination, length of stay)
Airport and cruise port arrivals
ROI models on groups, leisure tourist and event attendees
Visitor segmentation to determine GFLCVB's key visitor segments and areas of opportunity
Identifying and developing relationships with business partners to source and share market information, so that key business decisions are based on sound empirical evidence.
Utilize CRM tools across all data points being measured to monitor performance and use to achieve intelligence objectives.
Gathers, organizes, analyzes, examines, and/or evaluates data or information and provides recommended actions regarding the convention and tourism product development, plus marketing strategies.
Evaluates results of research projects, campaigns, and initiatives using metrics including visitor numbers, conversions, return on investment (ROI), media value, and hotel sentiment, and prepares recommendations.
Performs related work as assigned.
This class works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Provides creative leadership and standards for the agency, including the integration of branding, advertising imagery and messaging into all print and digital materials.
Oversees all aspects of the website, mobile site and apps, including content creation, branding alignment, search engine optimization and the collection and analysis of data and reporting; manages partnership with web development companies.
Provides marketing support to the departments; composes and designs targeted print, digital and presentation materials to support sales efforts, tourism sales, convention sales, sports development, marketing, multicultural development and office of film and entertainment.
Develops and executes community outreach activities and promotional initiatives which involves coordinating schedules (venues, speakers, media) and dissemination of data (event details, industry information); gathers, organizes, analyzes, examines and/or evaluates data or information and may prescribe action regarding the preparation and completion of publicity, marketing, and collateral materials.
Creates new accounts, updates accounts, has information sent out to hotels and venues; registers for tradeshows and arranges for all the materials to be shipped; books travel; checks and reports status of meeting space at the convention center; submits space requests to the convention center; arranges the appointments and emails site itineraries to hotels for site inspections; sends out invitations to clients for events.
Evaluates results of campaigns and initiatives using metrics including visitor numbers, conversions, return on investment (ROI), media value, and hotel sentiment.
Participates in major industry trade shows and educational conferences (may requires travel); participates in destination previews for meeting planners.
Updates list of clients and partners in the County customer relationship management (CRM) database; communicates regularly with My Meeting Planner clients through the CRM database.
Evaluates and identifies growth opportunities to increase and achieve targeted business goals through developing and executing various sales and marketing strategies for assigned markets;
Works daily with County agencies to reach business goals and promote Broward County.
Conducts solicitation to national organizations to encourage activities in Broward County; develops and gives trade show presentations; responds to inquiries from potential clients and the general public.
Assists with the completion of special projects such as reports and research projects for internal customers; coordinates and participates in outreach programs and training activities.
Provides technical assistance to internal and external customers; calls prospective and former clients to book their business and send out leads on their behalf; follows up on leads.

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, statistics, marketing, hospitality or closely related field. (Or any equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.)
Requires six (6) years in hospitality, tourism or convention sales/marketing experience related to the area of assignment.
Statistics or data analysis certification from an accredited school or association
Experience with Google Data Studio, or other comparable statistics dashboard software
Experience with Smith Travel Research data
