James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Director of Special Events and Donor Stewardship in the Athletics Development Office. This position reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development and is full-time with a comprehensive benefits package.
The Director of Special Events and Donor Stewardship will create exciting and innovative event experiences for all donors and prospective donors of JMU athletics. This includes but is not limited to: golf outing, hall of fame banquet, athletic director suite, building dedications, donor recognition, hospitality tents, Letterwinner Chapter Weekends, away game tailgates/events, spring tour, and exclusive donor dinners.
Other duties and responsibilities include: collaborate with the athletics development team and athletics leadership to clearly articulate desired and measured outcomes for each event; work with other key athletic department teams on a variety of communications and marketing efforts that impact development activities and athletics special event activities; implement policies and procedures across the department that is essential for comprehensive donor engagement program; oversee facility selection, contract negotiations, food and beverage selections, audio/visual service, etc.; oversee the design, production, and distribution of invitations, printed programs, and other promotional materials; supervise on-site staff and vendors during events; develop and manage events budget and reconcile final vendor payments; and ensure compliance with all relevant federal regulations and institutional, CAA, and NCAA rules; assist Director of the Annual Fund with Duke Club communications and donor stewardship; Act as Duke Club liaison with University Advancement/Alumni event planners.
A bachelor's degree is required, with a master's degree in Sport Management/Administration preferred. The department prefers that the successful candidate possess a minimum of 2-3 years of professional event planning experience, preferably in development, marketing, public relations, or intercollegiate athletics.
Other qualifications include strong organizational and analytical skills with ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, and evaluate strategic plans that support the mission of the Duke Club and JMU Athletics; ability to multi-task projects aligning with department priorities while meeting deadlines; supervisory experience related to the planning and execution of events; demonstrated skills in graphic design; experience with invitations and program materials; budget management experience and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a strong skill set in engaging and interacting with both the internal and external constituents of the athletics program. This position will involve working frequent evenings, weekends and holidays. Occasional travel is required.
