Job Summary: This position supports the Leadership Florida Education Class Program, which provides a diverse group of selected participants with a comprehensive look at K-12 education from international, national and statewide perspectives for the purpose of advancing education outcomes in Florida. Four sessions are held in cities around the state each year, focusing on educational systems including the examination of best practices from around the globe, classrooms and partnerships, and innovation. The first program of its kind, the Leadership Florida Education Program has been made possible through a unique partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Helios Education Foundation, the Florida Education Foundation, and the Florida Department of Education. The Education Specialist works with multiple constituencies to perform logistics coordination and grant management reporting for this important program.
Essential Functions: The Education Specialist (“Specialist”) has responsibility for the organization, management, and implementation of all facets of the Leadership Florida Education program. The Specialist works with a volunteer program chair and advisory committee members in the initiation, recruitment, development, organization, implementation and follow-through of the program. Further, the Specialist works to evaluate and enhance the curriculum to increase value to participants and meet goals and objectives of the organization. In addition to participant selection, the Education Specialist organizes planning meetings and participates in securing resources, arranging logistics, and executing the program sessions. The Specialist prepares clear, timely communications on logistics of program days, materials and preparation needed, and creates all materials for participants including class rosters, directories, agendas, speaker biography and contact lists, etc. The Specialist also coordinates all logistical arrangements including lodging, transportation, meals, venues, etc., and maintains necessary records, budgets, and documentation for grant reporting. Additional duties may be added as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements: Bachelor’s degree preferred. To be successful in the role, the Education Specialist must possess a wide array of technical and communication skills to deal effectively with key constituencies with whom he/she works, particularly volunteer leaders, Class members, sponsors, colleagues and vendors. The job requires both technical and leadership competencies, including:
General knowledge of the education sector in Florida
Logistics and scheduling, meeting management, and experience with travel arrangements
Well-honed interpersonal skills, including ability to work in a highly collaborative fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, good judgment and attention to detail
Strong time-management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks, and promoting process improvement
Outstanding knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, experience with AMS databases is a plus
Physical requirements include sitting, reaching, light lifting, operating keyboard, ability to see and speak
