New Student Programs, within the Office of Admissions at Iowa State University, is seeking applications for our Event Planner II position. Join a dynamic and collaborative team responsible for the innovation, planning and implementation of orientation and Destination Iowa State, serving 7,000 new students and 15,000 guests, as well as collaborating with 400 student leaders each year. As a member of the admissions team, this position supports enrollment management initiatives. This position collaboratively manages the logistics for all orientation events and Destination Iowa State new student transition activities in close collaboration with the New Student Programs team. This position coordinates the event planning logistics, risk management, and contract negotiations for orientation, Destination Iowa State and student leadership events throughout the academic year. The position liaisons to the campus community and will plan complex, multi-faceted, large-scale events. Duties include providing leadership for program development, as well as coordinating a variety of space needs, room reservations, signage, inventory, managing ongoing procurement processes; identifying and negotiating with speakers and entertainment; delivering and picking up materials at various locations on and off campus; transporting and placing directional signage in appropriate locations; and contributing to event communications and end-of-the-year reports. Additional areas of responsibility may include project leadership for app-based event tools and online orientation. This position will advise undergraduate student planning committees and supervise an administrative professional and student office associates. This person will have direct responsibility for major events held during orientation and Destination Iowa State.
The successful candidate will bring an innovative and intentional approach to programming and event implementation, striving to make our programs exciting, engaging and welcoming for all future Cyclones and their families, In addition, we are looking for a team member who understands of the value of higher education, as well as the purpose of new student programs and student success and transition issues. The candidate must be able to demonstrate problem-solving and project management skills.Â The successful candidate will have experience with current technology and be able to explore trends and implement new technologies in our programs. The person in this position must have an interest and desire to quickly learn and integrate new tools and ideas. A requirement of this position is to be available to work outside of a typical 8am-5pm work day for orientation, Destination Iowa State and student leadership programs that may be held on nights and weekends, particularly May â August.Â Â
