Reporting to the Director of Professional Education, the Associate Director of Professional Education actively contributes to the development, strategic vision and implementation of all programs and initiatives focused on renal professionals. The primary scope includes supporting the Unknown Causes of Kidney Disease (UCKD) Project, overseeing conference exhibits and professional-facing events, managing the Clinical Scientist in Nephrology (CSN) Fellowship Program and Carolyn Wilson Dialysis Patient Scholarship Program, managing professional-facing components of corporate partnerships, and program development. This position will also support CE/CME course creation and other professional education programmatic efforts as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Works closely with the Director of Professional Education to develop a programmatic vision for professional education programs that align with the AKF strategic plan. • Manages professional education programs and coalition groups related to the UCKD Roadmap, ensuring high quality standards and sponsor requirements are met and executed on time. • Conducts frequent and ongoing evaluation of professional education programs to assess program effectiveness and provides annual recommendations to the Director of Professional Education to drive improvements. • Initiates communication with internal and external partners regarding MOAs, contracts, program deliverables, and other variables related to professional education program management. • Secures qualified external subject matter experts and provides administrative and logistical support throughout the program management process. • Proactively and independently monitors trends in kidney disease of unknown causes, gaps/barriers within the space of renal professionals, and suggests new approaches as needed. • Proactively identifies and leverages strategic partners to further the reach and impact of professional education programs and projects. • Develops annual budget and manages program expenses within budgetary constraints. • Assists with developing related business documents such as proposals, letters of agreement, project summaries and reports. • Actively participates with Development department on reviewing and providing input to funding proposals and ensuring supporting contributors receive the benefits outlined in their sponsorship agreements. • Collaborates across departments, including Communications, Development, Government Affairs, Operations, to ensure successful implementation of professional education programs and initiatives. • Represents AKF in a professional manner through superior customer support and knowledge of AKF’s programs and services. • Requires overnight travel to locations outside of Rockville, MD (less than 10%). • Performs additional related duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in health or adult education preferred. • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in non-profit sector and/or public and professional education/training environment. • 2-3 years’ experience in logistics or event management preferred. • Proven track record of effectively communicating with various levels of medical and scientific professionals through both verbal and written correspondence. • Strong project management skills required. • Must be well-organized and detail oriented; have research and technical writing skills; budget; and excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint & Excel required. • Experience with learning management systems (such as Ethos) a plus • Demonstrated ability to be highly flexible, provide exemplary customer service, and work independently and in a team environment. • Ability to handle confidential matters with a high level of integrity. • Ability to work some weekends or evenings as required. • Ability to lift materials and boxes up to 30 lbs. • Position located in the AKF National office in Rockville, MD
AKF will be returning to the office on January 4, 2022, with employees working two days in the office and three days of telework.
