ResponsibilitiesThis position covers 3 areas:
- Research Administrations/Contracts Specialist
Manage research contracts and grants. Assist with the negotiations of the terms and conditions in contracts with different state counties. Act as a liaison with sponsors, the UC Davis Health System's Business Contracts Office, and the UC Davis Office of Research. Communicate regularly with these offices to ensure that proposals are moving forward within targeted timelines. Maintain contacts with appropriate program officers at funding agencies to keep abreast of changes, or anticipated changes, in funding mechanisms and grant proposal requirements.
- Communications Specialist/Event Planner
Produce, manage and coordinate events and communications. Manage events logistics. Design invitations, programs, and other materials. Produce newsletters and marketing materials.
- Special Projects & Purchasing
Responsible for procurement functions.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting or at least 2 years of equivalent experience/training.
- Experience in research administration in an academic setting.
- Experience reading and evaluating program budgets.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of proposals including identification of costs, benefits, opportunities, and risks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of contracts and grants transactions and applicable financial systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills required to prepare reports, project plans, and presentations, including to sponsors and the public in general.
- Strong computer skills with software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, Adobe InDesign, Web page software, Adobe Illustrator, Constant Contact, EndNote, etc.
- Excellent organizational skills to determine workload priorities to enable timely completion of tasks. Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with a minimum of direction. Ability to multi-task and set priorities on different projects.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience negotiating terms and conditions in contracts.
- Thorough knowledge of contracts and grants transactions and applicable financial systems.
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies. Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
- Knowledge of UC Path, Kuali, FIS DS, and Cognos.
Special Requirements - Occasional need to work overtime and/or alternate shifts, weekends, variable hours.
- Must be able to travel and work in both UC Davis and UC Davis Sacramento campuses.
- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
