Detailed Description: The Assistant Director for Law Student Affairs manages events, student onboarding, and law student affairs communications, helping to cultivate an engaging student experience from pre-matriculation to commencement. The Assistant Director for Law Student Affairs works in a collaborative relationship with all JD students, faculty, administrative offices, and university offices and implements and refines procedures to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Law Student Affairs Office. This role organizes our marquee events and supports ad hoc events organized by Law Student Affairs, and should be an experienced events planner. They should also be savvy with social media and newsletters, and know how to strategically engage their audience and use communications platforms to convey critical information to students. The ability to provide timely and accurate communication is an essential component of this position. This position requires occasional attendance at on and off campus events during and outside normal business hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management and Administration of Events
Responsible for ensuring successful execution of events. Provide management and administration for over 10 school-wide events and 5-8 student-specific events ranging from 50-300 people sponsored by the Law Student Affairs office each year, such as Orientation, Commencement, and Student Leadership Recognition.
Leads major events, and supports Law Student Affairs and Academic Success & Bar Programs staff in organizing other events as directed, such as supportive programming during exam periods, ad hoc programming organized in response to current events, and workshops.
Act as the primary interface with all administrative offices to coordinate calendars for major events.
Develop and recommend event programs, schedules, and budgets for each event, and manage events in line with approved parameters.
Manage all logistics for each event and provide reports on the status and cost of each event at necessary intervals.
Act as liaison with other university departments and the outside community relating to Commencement and Orientation activities.
Represent the law school on relevant event committees such as the Commencement Committee.
Oversee event marketing plans, including mailings, program materials (brochures, flyers, electronic signage, etc.) and web materials, including updating online calendars, postings and event sites.
Coordinate student retention events, such as 1L dinners and lunches with the Dean, other activities during 1L week, and other special projects as assigned.
Student Affairs Communications
Develop and implement the overall student communications strategy for the Law Student Affairs team, including weekly Sidebar newsletter.
Manage the Law Student Affairs social media accounts.
Manage the Law Student Affairs webpages, newsletters, and email campaigns from new student engagement to graduation.
Work with the Dean's office, Communications office, and other units on communications priorities and projects.
Identify opportunities for marketing and publicity on student life and Law Student Affairs and share with the Communications office to support school-wide communications priorities.
Manage department master calendar and coordinate with the Dean's office and others on campus to ensure efficient engagement of students.
Develop and maintain monthly, semester, and annual communication schedules.
Student Onboarding
Coordinate student onboarding (for fall, spring, and summer semesters) by liaising with the Admissions and the Registrar, tracking confirmed students, communicating onboarding information to them, ensuring required paperwork is signed, comply with student health insurance requirements, and connecting them with academic advisors as necessary.
Update Blackboard orientation modules and files as necessary for student onboarding.
Other Duties
Support day-to-day operations within the Law Student Affairs office, including supervising and training student staff and temporary assistance, stepping in to support workflow and office functioning as needed.
Order materials and supplies for events and for the office.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
Graduate degree. Bachelor's degree plus 1 additional year of experience may be substituted for the graduate degree.
2-3 years of professional experience
Experience managing major events
Experience managing communications platforms.
