Job Summary:
The Director of Education and Training is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of training initiatives; as well as fostering partnership with local stakeholders to ensure the enhancement of skills and knowledge among our membership. The Director of Education and Training is a member of the Association’s Leadership Team and supervises eight-nine meeting planners.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as part of the Association’s leadership team in setting organizational direction, strategic plan development, and developing and implementing policies, procedures and practices.
Collaborate with leadership to identify educational priorities and align events with strategic objectives.
Lead manager/planner for a multi-million-dollar training grant through the state of Michigan. Attend monthly meetings with state of Michigan leadership to ensure that protocols and objectives are achieved.
Lead for continuing education programs. Ensure that all educational programs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
Responsible for hiring and retaining team members.
Plan, organize, and execute nine annual conferences (multi- and single- day conferences).
Plan, organize, and execute approximately 15-25 in-person and virtual educational events.
Provide oversite to team members for over 200 in-person and virtual educational events reaching 16,000 attendees.
Responsible for logistics and RFPs of in-person events such as: negotiating hotel room rates, ensuring adequate training space, presenter travel arrangements, food and beverage recommendations, audio/visual support and all necessary details for implementing events.
Responsible for all aspects of virtual events (budgeting, marketing, registration, virtual software, presenter and attendee communication, day-of management).
Develop brochures, flyers and registration forms for marketing of events.
Responsible for review and approval of flyer/brochures prior to submitting for state of Michigan Communications Department review and approval.
Prepare and monitor meeting budgets, ensuring revenue and expenses are on track.
Negotiate hotel and vendor contracts; monitor financial obligations and liabilities; investigate and prepare recommendations for future-year meeting sites.
Maintain strong relationships with industry associations and stakeholder groups.
Build professional relationships and network with meeting planning groups and hospitality partners to remain current on professional development, event planning standards, and technology trends.
Clerical staff available to assist with event logistics.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
5-7 years of experience with a diverse range of events including in-person, hybrid, and virtual events.
Staff or team supervisory experience or project management.
Strong organizational and time management skills; detail-orientation and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Ability to proactively identify potential problem areas and implement appropriate solutions.
Must possess a comprehensive understanding of event principles, logistics, and best practices to ensure the seamless execution of events.
Experience in negotiating with vendors and arranging for contracted services.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with clients and vendors effectively.
Proficiency in utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Survey Monkey and MailChimp, CRM software (customer relationship management).
Proficiency in learning management/database software and tools.
Preferred knowledge on project management.
Knowledge and experience with website content/management.
Ability to work independently and take initiative, thriving in both an independent and collaborative work environment.
Job Location/Working Conditions:
CMHA is an at-will employer.
CMHA currently operates in a hybrid environment (2 days/week in Lansing headquarters).
Business hours at 8am-5pm (work hours are flexible between 7am-6pm).
A dedicated office space and remote equipment/tools will be provided.
Travel within Michigan required to attend events. This is a shared responsibility among all meeting planners.
Must have the ability to lift and carry supplies (40 lbs. or less), navigate stairs if necessary.
Must have vehicle to transport training materials.
