Job Description:
Mount Saint Mary's University is seeking an Events Set-Up Worker to join our Campus Events Department. The Event Set-Up Worker provides all furniture and equipment necessary for a successful event on campus, whether University-related or for outside clients (income-producing).
Position Hourly Range: $16.18 - $17.00
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs timely set-up of each day's events on campus by effectively scheduling workload based on event timeline and complexity.
Establishes and maintains an inventory of all tables, chairs, canopies, audio/visual equipment and load carriers (carts) on campus and ensures that all equipment is in proper condition for deployment and that it is being properly stored.
Responds effectively and immediately to radio and cell phone requests by the Campus Events Office for assistance with event-related needs on campus, or for ad hoc assistance with Facilities- related work orders.
Inspect campus venues for safety issues on a weekly basis and immediately reports problem areas to Campus Events staff or Facilities Management.
Collaborates 'on the fly' with event planners (University or outside rentals) on modifications to set- up requests or for additions to the equipment needed to successfully produce the event.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Occasionally required to work days off (depending on schedule) and overtime, based on event schedules.
Events Set-Up Workers from the Doheny and Chalon campuses will exchange campuses on a regular basis to broaden/maintain their knowledge of both locations.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge:
Must be able to read and write English to effectively communicate with clients and understand instructions on Set-Up Request Forms.
Must have a valid California Driver license and transportation.
Desirable:
Ability to troubleshoot audio/visual equipment is highly beneficial.
Should be able to make minor repairs to furniture, chairs and utility carts as necessary.
Abilities and Skills:
Ability to prioritize workload is a must.
Ability to be a self-starter relative to organizing set-up schedules each day.
Must be able to use good judgement (and creativity) in modifying requested set-ups if they don't work as drawn up by the requesting party.
Must be able to manage time effectively each day despite frequent attempts to interrupt planned schedule.
Must report requests for assistance by other departments to Campus Events staff.
Should possess carpentry skills to perform minor repairs to equipment, as needed.
Must have adequate communication skills to work effectively and proactively with administrators, students, staff and outside planners.
This position is often asked to perform duties not directly related to event preparation.
